Scenic Iceland

Terms and Conditions

Effective date: 22 April 2026
Last updated: 22 April 2026

Please read these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) carefully before booking a tour or using the website https://scenic.is (the “Service”) operated by Scenic Iceland ehf. (“Scenic Iceland”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

Your access to and use of the Service, and any booking you make with Scenic Iceland, is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. By placing a booking or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the Terms, you may not book with us or access the Service.

1. Bookings and Payment

Bookings are confirmed once full payment has been received and a booking confirmation has been issued by email. Seats and private-tour spots are guaranteed only once the booking is confirmed. For scheduled departures, bookings must be made at least two (2) hours before the scheduled departure time unless otherwise agreed in writing.

All prices are quoted in the currency displayed at the time of booking (typically ISK, EUR, or USD) and include applicable Icelandic value-added tax (VSK) unless stated otherwise. Quoted prices are valid at the time of booking; we reserve the right to correct any pricing errors before a booking is confirmed.

Payment is processed through Rapyd Financial Network (Iceland) ehf. (formerly Valitor), an authorised third-party payment processor. Scenic Iceland does not store or collect your payment card details. All transactions are protected by SSL encryption and comply with PCI-DSS standards.

2. Meeting Point, Pick-up, and Drop-off

The exact meeting point, pick-up location, and drop-off location for each tour are set out in your booking confirmation. It is the passenger’s responsibility to be ready at the agreed location at the agreed time. If pick-up from accommodation is included in your tour, please be ready at the reception or street entrance of the accommodation at the scheduled time, as drivers cannot wait for late passengers without affecting the rest of the group.

If we cannot locate you at the pick-up point and cannot reach you on the contact number provided, the tour will depart without you and will be treated as a no-show. No-shows are non-refundable.

3. Tour Times and Duration

All tour durations and return times stated on the website or in your booking confirmation are estimates. Actual duration may vary depending on weather, road conditions, traffic, daylight hours (particularly during winter), group interest, and other factors beyond our reasonable control. We will always prioritise safety and a quality experience over strict adherence to a schedule.

4. What Is Included and Not Included

What is included in each tour is specified on the tour description page and in your booking confirmation. Unless explicitly stated, the following are not included:

  • Flights to and from Iceland
  • Travel insurance (see Section 10)
  • Accommodation outside the tour dates
  • Meals and drinks not specified in the tour description
  • Personal expenses, gratuities, and items of a personal nature
  • Optional activities and entrance fees not included in the itinerary

5. Clothing, Equipment, and Fitness

Iceland’s weather is unpredictable and can change rapidly. Passengers are responsible for bringing appropriate clothing and footwear for the conditions expected on their tour, including warm layers, a waterproof outer layer, sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots, gloves, and a hat. Specific equipment recommendations are provided in your booking confirmation and on each tour’s description page.

Some tours (including glacier hikes, ice cave tours, hiking tours, and photo tours in rugged terrain) require a reasonable level of physical fitness and mobility. If you have any medical conditions, injuries, pregnancies, or accessibility needs that may affect your ability to participate, you must inform us at the time of booking so that we can assess suitability and make reasonable arrangements where possible. Scenic Iceland reserves the right to refuse participation on safety grounds, in which case a refund may be issued at our discretion.

6. Cancellations and Refunds

6.1 Cancellation by the Customer

  • More than 24 hours before the scheduled departure: a full refund is provided, minus any non-refundable third-party costs already incurred on your behalf (e.g., pre-purchased entrance tickets, ferry bookings, or accommodation that cannot be cancelled).
  • Less than 24 hours before the scheduled departure, or no-show: no refund will be issued.
  • Refund requests must be sent to hello@scenic.is. Refunds are processed back to the original payment method within 14 business days.

Private, custom, multi-day, and specialty tours (e.g., weddings, photo tours, bespoke itineraries) may be subject to separate cancellation terms, which will be stated in writing at the time of booking and take precedence over the standard 24-hour policy.

6.2 Cancellation or Changes by Scenic Iceland

We reserve the right to cancel, postpone, shorten, or modify any tour in the interest of passenger safety, including in cases of adverse weather, unsafe road or glacier conditions, natural events (e.g., volcanic activity, flooding), mechanical problems, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control. Where we cancel a tour:

  • We will first offer you an alternative departure date or an equivalent alternative tour where possible;
  • If no suitable alternative is accepted, we will refund the price paid for the cancelled tour in full;
  • We are not liable for incidental losses or expenses arising from the cancellation (e.g., loss of flight connections, accommodation, or earnings), and we strongly recommend that you hold appropriate travel insurance covering such risks.

7. Liability

Scenic Iceland acts as an organiser of tours and travel services in Iceland. We select our suppliers, guides, and drivers with care and require them to operate to appropriate safety standards. Subject to the limitations below, we accept responsibility for the services we directly provide.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scenic Iceland is not responsible for losses, damage, delay, inconvenience, injury, illness, or expense arising from:

  • Delays or changes to flights, ferries, or other transport not operated by Scenic Iceland;
  • Weather, road conditions, natural events (including but not limited to volcanic activity, seismic activity, glacial floods, avalanches, storms, and Northern Lights visibility);
  • The acts, omissions, or negligence of third parties (including other passengers, accommodation providers, restaurants, and external attractions);
  • Loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings before, during, or after the tour;
  • Any participant’s failure to follow safety instructions given by our guides or drivers;
  • War, terrorism, civil unrest, labour disputes, pandemic-related restrictions, or other events of force majeure (see Section 8).

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

8. Force Majeure

Scenic Iceland is not liable for any failure or delay in the performance of its obligations under these Terms caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, adverse weather, floods, fires, epidemics or pandemics, government actions or restrictions, war, terrorism, strikes, and disruption of telecommunications or utilities.

9. Behaviour and Right to Refuse Service

Scenic Iceland, its guides, and its drivers reserve the right to refuse, remove, or end participation for any person whose behaviour, in the reasonable opinion of the guide or driver, is dangerous to themselves or others, is disruptive to other passengers, or is in breach of Icelandic law. In such cases no refund will be given and the person(s) concerned will be responsible for any return transport and associated costs.

10. Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend that all passengers hold comprehensive travel insurance that covers, at a minimum, trip cancellation, medical treatment, emergency evacuation, and loss or damage to personal belongings, as well as any specific activities you plan to undertake (e.g., glacier hiking, ice caves). Scenic Iceland does not provide travel insurance.

11. Photography and Marketing

Photographs and video footage taken by our guides during tours may be used by Scenic Iceland for marketing purposes, including on our website and social media channels. If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed for marketing purposes, please inform your guide at the start of the tour and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes. You retain all rights in photographs and video you take yourself.

12. Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are and will remain the exclusive property of Scenic Iceland ehf. and its licensors. The Service is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws of both Iceland and foreign countries. Our trademarks and trade dress may not be used in connection with any product or service without the prior written consent of Scenic Iceland.

13. Links to Other Sites

Our Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by Scenic Iceland. Scenic Iceland has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites or services. We strongly advise you to read the terms and privacy policies of any third-party websites or services that you visit.

14. Complaints

If you have a complaint about any aspect of your tour, please inform your guide or driver at the time so that they have the opportunity to resolve the issue on the spot. If the matter cannot be resolved locally, please email hello@scenic.is within 30 days of the end of the tour with a clear description of the complaint. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 7 business days and resolve them within 30 business days.

15. Privacy

Your use of the Service and any booking with Scenic Iceland is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Iceland, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or any booking made with Scenic Iceland, which cannot be resolved amicably, shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the District Court of Reykjanés (Héraðsdómur Reykjaness).

17. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will make reasonable efforts to provide at least 30 days’ notice prior to any new terms taking effect. What constitutes a material change will be determined at our sole discretion. By continuing to access or use our Service or placing new bookings after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms.
