3-Day South Coast & Golden Circle Tour

3-Day South Coast & Glacier Adventure

This 3-day adventure builds on the popular 2-day South Coast tour with the added bonus of exploring the Golden Circle — Þingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall — three of Iceland’s most famous natural treasures.

From there, you’ll head along the South Coast to experience stunning waterfalls, black sand beaches, and the breathtaking Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. At Vatnajökull National Park, you’ll embark on a glacier hike or ice cave tour (depending on the season), with plenty of opportunities to spot the Northern Lights during winter nights.

Throughout the journey, our local guides will share captivating stories from Iceland’s Viking Sagas, play Icelandic music, and introduce you to traditional cuisine — all while ensuring your safety and comfort.

Tour Highlights:

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – The Golden Circle & South Coast Sights

We start the journey with pickup from your hotel in Reykjavík around 8:00 AM, heading straight into the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route.

Stops include:

  • Þingvellir National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage Site where the world’s oldest parliament was founded and the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are visibly drifting apart. The park also features Iceland’s largest natural lake.

  • Geysir
The world’s most famous geyser, from which all others are named. Watch as Strokkur erupts every 5–7 minutes, shooting water over 30 meters into the air.

  • Gullfoss Waterfall
A thunderous, glacially-fed waterfall with stunning viewpoints — a true national treasure.

We then continue toward Iceland’s South Coast to visit:

  • Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
Unique for the path that lets you walk behind the waterfall — waterproof clothing recommended!

  • Skógafoss Waterfall
One of Iceland’s tallest and most powerful waterfalls. Climb to the top for an incredible view.

  • Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
A hauntingly beautiful volcanic beach with towering basalt columns and sea stacks.

Overnight Stay: A cozy hotel with a private bathroom located along the South Coast route.

Day 2 – Glacier Lagoon, Ice Cave or Glacier Hike

After breakfast, we travel to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a 300-meter-deep glacial lake filled with enormous floating icebergs that have broken off Europe’s largest glacier — Vatnajökull.

  • Diamond Beach
Adjacent to the lagoon, this black sand beach glitters with chunks of glacial ice that resemble diamonds.

This area has been featured in several major films, including James Bond, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones.

Main Activity:

  • Ice Cave Tour (Oct–Apr):
Hop aboard a super jeep to reach a remote section of Vatnajökull and explore a dazzling crystal blue ice cave with professional guidance and all gear included.

  • Glacier Hike (May–Sep):
Trek across Breiðamerkurjökull, a glacial outlet of Vatnajökull, with crampons, helmets, and the guidance of a certified glacier expert. Learn about the glacier’s movement and formations along the way.

Exceptional photography conditions in both versions of the tour.

Overnight Stay: A hotel beneath the glacier, with a private bathroom and breakfast included.
If the Northern Lights appear, your guide will help you make the most of the moment.

Day 3 – Scenic Return to Reykjavík

On our return journey to the capital, we make several unforgettable stops:

  • Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon
A stunning, ancient canyon with dramatic cliff walls and sweeping views.

  • Eldhraun Lava Field
The largest lava field ever recorded in human history — a surreal landscape that feels like another planet.

  • Dyrhólaey Rock Arch
A dramatic promontory with panoramic views of glaciers, black beaches, and puffin nesting cliffs (seasonal).

We return to Reykjavík by late afternoon and drop you off at your hotel.

Perfect for:

Glacier Adventure – Ice Cave or Glacier Hike

On Day 2 of your adventure, you’ll take part in one of two unforgettable glacier activities, depending on the season. Whether you’re exploring a sapphire-colored ice cave or trekking across a glacier with panoramic mountain views, you’ll be guided by experienced professionals and fully equipped for the conditions.

❄️ Ice Cave Tour (October – April)

Step off the beaten path into a magical crystal blue ice cave, deep within the Vatnajökull glacier.

A ride in a specially equipped super jeep takes you across icy terrain to reach the cave entrance. Once there, your professional glacier guide will provide all necessary equipment and safety instructions. You’ll then step into a surreal world of shimmering blue ice tunnels, frozen sculptures, and ancient formations carved by glacial meltwater.

The ice cave experience offers unrivaled photo opportunities and a chance to witness the natural forces that shape Iceland’s dramatic landscapes.

 Included:

  • Super jeep ride to the cave

  • Certified glacier guide

  • Helmet, crampons, and all safety gear

  • Small group experience

🥾 Glacier Hike Tour (May – September)

If you’re visiting during the warmer months, you’ll hike across Breiðamerkurjökull, a massive outlet glacier of Vatnajökull.

As you step onto the ice, your guide will lead you past crevasses, moulins, and glacial ridges while explaining the glacier’s history and features. You’ll experience the fresh mountain air, breathtaking views, and the thrill of walking across one of Europe’s last great wildernesses.

This is a moderately easy hike suitable for anyone in decent physical shape — no previous glacier experience required.

 Included:

  • Certified glacier guide

  • Crampons, helmet, harness

  • Safety briefing and technique demo

  • Glacier facts & local insights

 Glacier Tour Highlights:

  • Tour Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull

  • Explore a natural ice cave or hike across ancient ice

  • Enjoy amazing photo opportunities in every season

  • Experience safe, small group adventures with top-rated guides

What to Bring on Your Glacier Adventure

To enjoy your glacier adventure safely and comfortably, it’s essential to come prepared. Icelandic weather is unpredictable, and you’ll be outdoors for extended periods. Dress appropriately and pack the essentials listed below:

 Essentials:

  • Warm, layered clothing (fleece or wool recommended)

  • Windproof and waterproof jacket and trousers

  • Hiking boots with ankle support (rentals available on request)

  • Hat and gloves (warm and weather-resistant)

  • Thick socks (preferably wool)

  • Packed lunch and snacks (especially energy-rich foods like chocolate)

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Camera (optional, but highly recommended)

 Important Notes:

  • Avoid jeans: Denim absorbs moisture and takes a long time to dry. Wet jeans will make you very uncomfortable, especially during glacier activities.

  • Dress in layers so you can adjust to temperature changes.

  • Waterproof gloves are better than knit ones, especially near glaciers.

  • Make sure all electronic devices are fully charged for the day — photo ops are everywhere!

 Food Info:

Lunch is not included in the tour price.
On Day 2, there will be an opportunity to purchase a light meal at the café or food stands near the glacier lagoon.

 Need Gear?

We offer a limited number of hiking boots for rent. Please reserve them in advance if needed.
